You must not miss these. Your goal is not to allow water. It will lead to instability and slippage of the structure after freezing in winter. This of course brings both practical and aesthetic disadvantages.

The next critical point is laying the first row. This should be laid completely straight using special measuring devices. Any inequalities at this point can not be straightened out with the rest of the structure.

In addition, make sure that the mortar dries very well after the first layer has been laid. Only then should you move on to line up the next stones. For welding together of these you can use conventional building material glue and no usual mortar. You may be able to ask for a more suitable alternative in the purchase.
