Also this year 2016 the actual Carnival in Venice starts much earlier than in Germany. Already on the 23rd of January, the festive processions with richly decorated gondolas start on the Rio di Cannaregio and offer visitors unparalleled views. A week later, on Saturday, January 30th, the theatrical performances begin at the Gran Teatro in Piazza San Marco, where the famous Festa delle Marie takes place.
