In today’s material we would like to deal with various DIY printing techniques and present some possibilities for a successful implementation. How to make a stamp yourself with your own hand and also from home and thus creatively design one or more t-shirts?

 Even the children know the printing technology with potatoes inside out, but it is and remains the fastest and easiest way to make textiles qualitative and individual.

Starting with the technique of oppression by means of a potato, we embark on the search for suitable motives and materials that allow us the creative freedom and spare us the complicated and technical part.

Many of the forms that surround us every day can be incorporated perfectly into our projects. Basic forms can create exciting patterns and you can either work purely graphically or provide a lot of color for dynamics and expressivity. You may be a bit surprised, but apart from potatoes you can still work creatively with different kinds of vegetables or fruits and come up with original results.

Any vegetables can become instruments of your design 

For example, you could halve an apple, paint it with textile paint around the core, and make an imprint on bright fabric. That would be a technique that leads quickly and easily to original results.

Nature already gives us a huge variety of shapes and patterns, and once we’ve learned to admire them and discover them again and again, we can finally and easily design a few tops for the summer with fresh organic designs all by ourselves.

In many tutorials you can see how the textile color is applied with a brush on the page serving as a stamp

Depending on the season, you can take advantage of the garden of nature and work with the structure of the okra, the lemon or orange slices or create great designs from paprika rings. Cauliflower, radicchio, celery or even onions can be your best helper. But the potato remains the best vegetable variety with which you can bring almost all sorts of motifs to the t-shirt.

For more accurate printing results, we recommend that you carefully dab the paint over the structure with a dabbed kitchen sponge 

Design three designs yourself and create a t-shirt – from A to Z.

To make a stamp yourself, you need:

-one or more large potatoes (or one of the above listed vegetables)

-sharp knife for cutting

-paper towels

-textile Color

-textile pen

-felt-tip pen

-kitchen sponge

-scissors

-white t-shirt or other textile template

-Cardboard or thick plastic foil, which is pushed in between the layers of the T-shirt

Implementation:

Each type of fruit or vegetable suitable for printing contains either water or starch and should be carefully dried with paper towel after cutting. When you have finished, we can continue with the design part.

From potatoes you can cut out believable Ananasse 

For the project shown here a halved potato was used. To quickly create a fruity T-shirt, cut 0.5 cm deep grooves (as shown) into the potato and apply a thin layer of paint with a brush or sponge. Before putting the print on the fabric, put cardboard or foil in the T-shirt. Carefully stamp and voila!

Make sure that no paint gets in the grooves

You could use a spoon to hollow out the apple, lemon or apple sauce and enjoy cool graphic effects

You need fruits, textile dye and a medium for printing 

To reshape the shape, use a textile pen

Cut in half the fruits, in this case pears, and quarter them and dry with kitchen paper

As mentioned above, you can work cleaner and safer by placing a hard pad under the fabric 

Mix colors, according to creative vision or just prepare for printing 

If you are clever enough to dip the bulb in the paint, you are welcome to work without a brush or sponge

Apply thin layer of paint to the pear or dab on it and print on the fabric 

A pear, some color and two wonderful results 

Recreate the forms with textile pencil and give them a perfect appearance 

The exact same thing happens with an orange and then with lemon 

A pretty and fruity motif will really work well on any fabric in the summer

There is always great caution when applying the paint, because A) the good textile color is not exactly cheap and B) the print drowns in color and thus the form becomes an abstract spot
